Panel intervenes in Queensland for dog on death row

The Panel intervened this week to save a dog, Zeus, from being put down by Brisbane City Council as an alleged restricted breed dog, pending the arrival from interstate in the next fortnight of a veterinarian (arranged by the Panel) to assess Zeus and certify that he is not a restricted breed dog, and if so to thus secure Zeus’ release and return home. Brisbane City Council has given assurances as to Zeus’ safety until 30 October (when the matter has been listed for hearing) and has been helpful in all dealings with the Panel. Law firm Holding Redlich (Brisbane office) filed proceedings in the Magistrates Court at Brisbane on Wednesday seeking the return of Zeus to his owner. The Panel thanks Panel counsel Graeme Page QC for his assistance.
