Investigation reveals Australian sheep brutally slaughtered in Jordan

An investigation by Animals Australia during the Eid religious festival in Jordan in mid-October 2013 shows Australian sheep being dragged along the ground, thrown into car boots or trucks and carved open at the throat. Over 10,000 Australian sheep were sold outside the current Exporter Supply Chain Assurance Scheme (ESCAS), introduced in 2011 following the Indonesian live cattle exposé to make exporters responsible for animal welfare throughout the supply chain.

This morning, Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce responded that the ESCAS was not failing and that the export of live sheep to Jordan will not be shut following the latest revelations of animal cruelty. Read more here: Australia sheep brutally slaughtered in Jordan – The Australian.

Here is the footage aired last night on Lateline. Warning: it does contain some disturbing images of animal cruelty.
